Car bomb kills at least 18 in Turkey-controlled Syrian city (VIDEOS)

Russia Today - Sat, 2019-11-16 10:39

A car bomb that blew up in the Turkey-controlled Syrian city of al-Bab has killed at least 18 people and left 28 others injured, Turkish media are reporting. Ankara is accusing Kurdish militias of being behind the attack.

The deadly explosion went off near a bus terminal on Saturday, causing the deaths and significant damage in the area. A video published by an Al Jazeera correspondent showed a chaotic scene with multiple small fires and what appears to be a large pool of blood on the ground.

The Turkish Defense Ministry has accused the “inhumane and uncivilized” Kurdish YPG militias for the bombing, saying the tactics showed that they were not different from the terrorist group Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). The ministry wouldn’t immediately explain how it attributed the responsibility.

Inhumane and uncivilised PKK/YPG terrorists continue to target innocent civilians using the same methods as DAESH. This time the terrorists detonated a car bomb in the Al-Bab bus terminal in the Op Euphrates Shield area, killing 10 civilians and injuring more than 15. pic.twitter.com/t6yPWGBaoX

Ankara considers the Syrian Kurdish militia terrorists and an extension of the PKK, the Turkey-based force that has fought a decades-long guerrilla war against the Turkish government.

Al-Bab is located in the Aleppo governorate some 30 km south of Syria’s border with Turkey and has remained under Turkish control since late 2016. Ankara-backed militias seized the city after defeating IS jihadists, who had captured it in 2013.

That Turkish takeover denied the Kurdish militias a chance to seize the city for themselves, which would otherwise have connected Kurdish-controlled areas to the east and to the west of the city.

Why so serious?! UFC fighter Markus Perez dons Joker-inspired makeup at UFC Sao Paulo weigh-ins (VIDEO)

Russia Today - Sat, 2019-11-16 10:24

We are a couple of weeks past Halloween but UFC fighter Markus Perez would have scored top marks for this costume as he pulled out all the stops in Sao Paulo by walking to the scales in full Heath Ledger-inspired Joker makeup.

Perez kept his face obscured from the audience as he walked to the stage before turning to reveal an immaculate representation of the makeup worn by Ledger in the 2008 film 'The Dark Knight.'

The impersonation didn't stop there. He mirrored Ledger's iconic mannerisms from the character for which he posthumously won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, swaying on the scales and licking his lips and when staring down his opponent, Wellington Turman, he had just one question.

"Why so serious?"

Fighters are often seen showing off their lighter side at weigh-ins but rarely is it committed-to in the same fashion as Perez, whose performance was praised on social media by a swathe of well-known names.

"Bro if he shows up to the fight like that it would be absolutely epic," wrote UFC champion Jon Jones in the comments section while former middleweight titleholder Chris Weidman commented: "Love this!"

Perez, an 11-2 middleweight, will no doubt be hoping that he can maintain a little bit of the Joker's dark side for Saturday's battle with Turman in Sao Paulo.
